AYF Falcons Fly Into Championship

The AYF Falcons advance to their 3rd consecutive championship game while seeking back to back championships with a 34-0 victory in the semi final match up over the Broncos from Jay, Sunday afternoon at a blustery Chet Bulger Field in Rumford.

The Broncos won the coin flip and elected to receive the opening kick-off. The Broncos started the contest at their 28 yard line. The Falcons defense exhibited outstanding team tackling from line-backers, Ethan Laubauskas, Cam Godbois, Will Bean, Jasper Turner, and Will Sorensen forcing the Broncos a turn over on downs at their 40 yard line.

The Falcons offense wasted no time as they marched 40 yards on 5 plays behind some great line blocking from Nick McInnis, Jack Lavorgna, Alex Gorham, and Turner. The running attack featured Keegan Davis with a 17 yard run and a Sorensen 22 yard dash to the 2 yard line. From there, Sorensen found the end zone with a 2 yard touch down run up the gut. Gorham kicked the PAT for a 7-0 lead with 2:27 left in the 1st quarter.

The Falcons defense led by textbook tackles from Zeb Houghton, Jack "attack" Lavorgna, Bryant Lucio, and Bean forced the Broncos to turn the ball over on down at their 38 yard line with 31 seconds left in the 1st quarter.

On the Falcons 2nd offensive series, Sorensen took the 1st hand off then slashed off tackle for an 8 yard gain to the Broncos 30 yard line. Quarterback Cam Godbois faked the hand-off to Sorensen then he bootlegged left and delivered a perfect pass to Keegan Davis down the left side line for a 30 yard touchdown pass, giving the Falcons a 13-0 lead after the opening quarter.

The 2nd quarter was highlighted by the Falcons smothering defense. The Broncos never penetrated the Falcons side of the field during the 2nd quarter.

The Falcons offense strung together a 49 yard 5 play scoring drive before the half. Davis had a 27 yard run followed by a Sorensen 14 yard gallup setting up a 1st and goal from the 4 yard line. Zach Blodgett powered his way into the end zone for the score. Gorham PAT kick was good for a Falcons 20-0 lead at intermission.

In the 3rd quarter Gorham hit pay dirt from his fullback spot as he broke a tackle then hurdled another defender for a exciting 47 yard touch down scamper. Gorham then kicked the PAT for a Falcons 27-0 lead going into the final frame.

The Falcons would add one more score in the 4th with a Josh Thibodeau 9 yard run followed up with 2 carries from Turner giving the Falcons a 1st and goal at the 2 yard line. Laubauskas punched it over the goal line from there. Gorhams PAT kick was good for a Falcons 34-0 win and a trip to the Championship next Sunday at Chet Bulger Field in Rumford.
